Joshua Mersereau buried in Presho Cemetery-Lindley,NY

This is just one of the Revolutionary soldiers buried in the Town of Lindley Cemeteries. In the Lindsley Burying Ground are Col.Eleazer Lindsley-(founder of the town ) and 2 of his son-in-laws who also served.
Dr.Ezekiel Mulford and Captain John Seelye. (The exact location of  Col. Lindsley or Captain Seelye graves are not known.)
 A new marker for Col.Lindsley was placed in the cemetery in 1990 Lindley Bicentennial celebration by the Heritage Days Committee.
Both Col. Lindsley and Joshua Mersereau have been inducted into the Steuben County Hall of Fame.
Joshua's portrait is on display in the Military Room in the Tioga County,Penna. Museum in Wellsboro,Pennsylvania

A former Lindley resident was curious as to the date.  Lt.Col. Eleazer Lindsley  and Lindsley Coat of Arms (Composite photo made for the Steuben County Hall of Fame) Lindley no longer has a school in the town and this is my way of letting the residents learn about the town where they live .  The following will be excerpts from various histories about the history  of the Town of Lindley. Each historian or person writing the following information has made his own  interpretation of the facts .  Kitty Lt. Colonel Eleazer Lindsley was born December 7th, 1737 in Morristown, New Jersey -the son of Jonathon Lindsley. He died in Lindley, N.Y. June 1,1794. He served as a Lt .Colonel. in Colonel Oliver Spencer's Regiment of New Jersey Continental Troops. He was ,also, a Second Major in the Morris County ,Militia . Brigadier General John Taylor - (2nd Husband of Mary Miller Lindsley)

20 October 2012 – Bath NY Delivered by Timothy F. Taylor, at his great x 4 grandfather’s, Brigadier General John Taylor, memorial service.   Impact of research – formation of team, re-establishment of ties to lost branches of the family. One of the first documents that the team discovered was a note in the Bath Historian’s office detailing some of the History of General John Taylor and his family.   In that note it states that John Taylor started as a private in the Militia.   Although we have not found any of his Militia Records prior to 1775, we have found that on October 28 th of 1775 he was promoted to 2 nd Major of the 4 th Hunterdon Regiment of the New Jersey Militia. Revolutionary War Pension Applications detail some of his unit’s accomplishments, one of which tells of a detail from Major John Taylor’s command that was sent to patrol the Delaware River in December of 1776.   That detail was under the command of Lt.
