Honoring Colonel Lindsley's son Samuel Lindsley

Please join the Lindsley Family Descendants and their families as they honor their ancestor.
Samuel Lindsley -the youngest son of Colonel Eleazer Lindsley who served in the Revolutionary War along with his father and 2 brothers-in law. .  Colonel Lindsley, his two sons -in-law -Mulford and Seelye have been honored  previously for their contributions in 1914, 2003 with plaques in the Lindsley Burying Ground and in 2016 with the Cemetery Roadside Marker from the Pomeroy Foundation . However, it wasn't until about 3 years ago that the 4th Gt.Grandson of Samuel, Phillip Cirulli undertook the task of researching the record of this ancestor that proved Samuel had served.


 With help from former County Historian Eleanor Silliman and a member of the Kanestio DAR Chapter, the National DAR approved a plaque honoring Samuel. 
On September 8th, 2018,  at 1 P.M. this plaque will finally be added to those of his Father and two brothers-in-law in the Lindley Burying Ground on County Rt 115 (old U.S.15 )  1/2 South of the Green Shingle Inn..

A former Lindley resident was curious as to the date.  Lt.Col. Eleazer Lindsley  and Lindsley Coat of Arms (Composite photo made for the Steuben County Hall of Fame) Lindley no longer has a school in the town and this is my way of letting the residents learn about the town where they live .  The following will be excerpts from various histories about the history  of the Town of Lindley. Each historian or person writing the following information has made his own  interpretation of the facts .  Kitty Lt. Colonel Eleazer Lindsley was born December 7th, 1737 in Morristown, New Jersey -the son of Jonathon Lindsley. He died in Lindley, N.Y. June 1,1794. He served as a Lt .Colonel. in Colonel Oliver Spencer's Regiment of New Jersey Continental Troops. He was ,also, a Second Major in the Morris County ,Militia . Brigadier General John Taylor - (2nd Husband of Mary Miller Lindsley)

20 October 2012 – Bath NY Delivered by Timothy F. Taylor, at his great x 4 grandfather’s, Brigadier General John Taylor, memorial service.   Impact of research – formation of team, re-establishment of ties to lost branches of the family. One of the first documents that the team discovered was a note in the Bath Historian’s office detailing some of the History of General John Taylor and his family.   In that note it states that John Taylor started as a private in the Militia.   Although we have not found any of his Militia Records prior to 1775, we have found that on October 28 th of 1775 he was promoted to 2 nd Major of the 4 th Hunterdon Regiment of the New Jersey Militia. Revolutionary War Pension Applications detail some of his unit’s accomplishments, one of which tells of a detail from Major John Taylor’s command that was sent to patrol the Delaware River in December of 1776.   That detail was under the command of Lt.
