Armed Forces Day
From Wikipedia

"On August 31st 1949, Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson announced the creation of Armed Forces  Day to replace separate Army, Navy, Marine Corp and Air Force Days. The single celebration stemmed from the unification of the Armed Forces under one department --  The Department of Defense.
In the United States, Armed Forces Day is celebrated on the third Saturday in May. The purpose of Armed Forces Day is to honor Americans serving in the five services  the Army, Navy ,Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard."

                             Armed Forces Day in Lindley
In October 2007, Lindley residents dedicated a monument to honor its local Veterans. In May 2008, the Tioga County, Penna.  Honor Guard performed an Armed Forces Day ceremony that  honored the local veterans from the 5 military services at the Lindley Veterans monument. This became an  annual event.  For the last several years this coincided with the Lindley-Presho Fireman's Bar BQ and  residents were able  to enjoy the two events.-making it a community day.
Refreshments were provided by local bakers and our  Lawrenceville neighbors --  Brownies Mini Mart, Roger's Grocery and Rotsell's Restaurant . One veteran even found his favorite cookie  -- Oatmeal Raisin in the variety of cookies provided.  And let's not forget Brenda Criss and her donation of punch. An added attraction for several  years was the Woodhull Community Band.
All these groups and individuals  who volunteered to help or donate  are to be complimented on their dedication and efforts to make this a memorable day for the area  veterans. It became a simple affair to honor  all those who are serving or have served in the Armed Forces of the United States.
