Benjamin Patterson

The Lindley-Presho Historical Society will meet 7 P.M..Thursday June 25th at the Lindley Town Hall .

Leon Golder of the Patterson Inn in Corning will present a program on Benjamin Patterson –for whom the Inn is named.

The program is of interest to Lindley residents as Benjamin’s younger brother , Robert was an early Lindley resident and land owner.
 
The 1857 map shows E.Patterson living on present River Road at end of Church Creek.  There is no  Patterson family genealogy in the files-so I am guessing this is a descendant of Robert Patterson. A Steuben County history states that David Cook and Robert Patterson brought back apple trees from one of their trips. Tannery Creek was formerly known as Cook's Creek - named for the family owning the property there. The map shows both the Cook and Patterson name between Tannery Creek and Church Creek -so I guess we can assume David Cook and Robert Patterson  were  probably neighbors. A trip to Bath to County Clerk's office to check deeds would probably  help solve the puzzle unless a present owner of property in this area has information on their abstract.
        Perhaps , Mr Golder's research on Benjamin will tell us more about the 2 families or current Lindley residents  will have information about Robert  Patterson and his family.

                                                                         For Sale in 2014      The last blog posting shows the  postcard of a Northside High School. A former Lindley resident was curious as to the date. Using the Internet ,  he found a copy of the postcard dated 1905.  After a discussion about the  age of the  Northside  High School that has been in  recent  Corning Leader news articles, he located a September 14,1927 article  on the Fulton  Archival Newspaper website  that said the new high school had opened .  Corresponding with him  about the date and other information regarding the school had  piqued my curiosity .        Knowing that so many Lindley residents had attended  a Corning Northside High School or  had a connection with it,  I decided to research the history of the schools.  Lt.Col. Eleazer Lindsley  and Lindsley Coat of Arms (Composite photo made for the Steuben County Hall of Fame) Lindley no longer has a school in the town and this is my way of letting the residents learn about the town where they live .  The following will be excerpts from various histories about the history  of the Town of Lindley. Each historian or person writing the following information has made his own  interpretation of the facts .  Kitty Lt. Colonel Eleazer Lindsley was born December 7th, 1737 in Morristown, New Jersey -the son of Jonathon Lindsley. He died in Lindley, N.Y. June 1,1794. He served as a Lt .Colonel. in Colonel Oliver Spencer's Regiment of New Jersey Continental Troops. He was ,also, a Second Major in the Morris County ,Militia . Brigadier General John Taylor - (2nd Husband of Mary Miller Lindsley)

20 October 2012 – Bath NY Delivered by Timothy F. Taylor, at his great x 4 grandfather’s, Brigadier General John Taylor, memorial service.   Impact of research – formation of team, re-establishment of ties to lost branches of the family. One of the first documents that the team discovered was a note in the Bath Historian’s office detailing some of the History of General John Taylor and his family.   In that note it states that John Taylor started as a private in the Militia.   Although we have not found any of his Militia Records prior to 1775, we have found that on October 28 th of 1775 he was promoted to 2 nd Major of the 4 th Hunterdon Regiment of the New Jersey Militia. Revolutionary War Pension Applications detail some of his unit’s accomplishments, one of which tells of a detail from Major John Taylor’s command that was sent to patrol the Delaware River in December of 1776.   That detail was under the command of Lt.
