Above is a sampling of photos of some of the Veteran's graves in Lindley's Fairview Cemetery.

While Tom Loughridge and Dick Pierce located the graves and placed flags by the gravestones, I took photos of the gravestones for the Town Historian's files. Fortunately, Tom who had undertaken the task of placing the flags in recent years had made a map of known Veteran's graves. This made the task somewhat easier,but the writing on many of the older stones is becoming more difficult to read each year. Some of the known Civil War Veteran's graves were not located. Hopefully,by cross referencing the Fairview Cemetery records with the the list of Lindley men who served in the Civil War, some graves will be located. Others are known to be buried in Presho Cemetery, Powers Cemetery in Lawrenceville- perhaps other nearby cemeteries . Undoubtedly, many moved away.

Tom deserves a lot of credit for the time and effort that he has put into honoring the Veteran's by placing flags on the graves. However, there comes a time when someone from the younger generation needs to step forward and" do the job". Since the Town of Lindley is now responsible for the cemetery maintenance , the maps and lists are filed in the Lindley Town Clerk's office.

The Town Historian's files will have the photos and files on many of Lindley's Veterans.

Eleazer Lindsley  and Lindsley Coat of Arms (Composite photo made for the Steuben County Hall of Fame) Lindley no longer has a school in the town and this is my way of letting the residents learn about the town where they live .  The following will be excerpts from various histories about the history  of the Town of Lindley. Each historian or person writing the following information has made his own  interpretation of the facts .  Kitty Lt. Colonel Eleazer Lindsley was born December 7th, 1737 in Morristown, New Jersey -the son of Jonathon Lindsley. He died in Lindley, N.Y. June 1,1794. He served as a Lt .Colonel. in Colonel Oliver Spencer's Regiment of New Jersey Continental Troops. He was ,also, a Second Major in the Morris County ,Militia . Brigadier General John Taylor - (2nd Husband of Mary Miller Lindsley)

20 October 2012 – Bath NY Delivered by Timothy F. Taylor, at his great x 4 grandfather’s, Brigadier General John Taylor, memorial service.   Impact of research – formation of team, re-establishment of ties to lost branches of the family. One of the first documents that the team discovered was a note in the Bath Historian’s office detailing some of the History of General John Taylor and his family.   In that note it states that John Taylor started as a private in the Militia.   Although we have not found any of his Militia Records prior to 1775, we have found that on October 28 th of 1775 he was promoted to 2 nd Major of the 4 th Hunterdon Regiment of the New Jersey Militia. Revolutionary War Pension Applications detail some of his unit’s accomplishments, one of which tells of a detail from Major John Taylor’s command that was sent to patrol the Delaware River in December of 1776.   That detail was under the command of Lt.
