Some roads on 2005 map  no longer exist  and new maps will show new roads when I 99
is completed in ( 2013. ???? )
  
 
The Lindley-Presho Historical Society meetings will resume on Thursday March 28th 7:00 PM.at the Lindley Town Hall on Rt. 15.  The program is a display of aerial maps of Lindley taken in June 1955. (weather permitting)
Meetings are free and  public is invited.

A former Lindley resident was curious as to the date. Using the Internet ,  he found a copy of the postcard dated 1905.  After a discussion about the  age of the  Northside  High School that has been in  recent  Corning Leader news articles, he located a September 14,1927 article  on the Fulton  Archival Newspaper website  that said the new high school had opened .  Corresponding with him  about the date and other information regarding the school had  piqued my curiosity .        Knowing that so many Lindley residents had attended  a Corning Northside High School or  had a connection with it,  I decided to research the history of the schools. Eleazer Lindsley  and Lindsley Coat of Arms (Composite photo made for the Steuben County Hall of Fame) Lindley no longer has a school in the town and this is my way of letting the residents learn about the town where they live .  The following will be excerpts from various histories about the history  of the Town of Lindley. Each historian or person writing the following information has made his own  interpretation of the facts .  Kitty Lt. Colonel Eleazer Lindsley was born December 7th, 1737 in Morristown, New Jersey -the son of Jonathon Lindsley. He died in Lindley, N.Y. June 1,1794. He served as a Lt .Colonel. in Colonel Oliver Spencer's Regiment of New Jersey Continental Troops. He was ,also, a Second Major in the Morris County ,Militia . He married Mary Miller of Morristown N.J. He served in the New Jersey Assembly in 1780; was a Justice of Peace in 1783 and moved to Steuben County, New York in 1790. Thanks ,Tracy. There is so much history connected with Lindley and the people connected to the history, that the blog will be expanded to include more stories about people. Some stories will be funny, some will be sad, but they will help tell the story of the growth of a settlement started in the wilderness by a group of New Jersey settlers in  June ,1790  (almost 226 years ago)    How can the history of a place be told without relating stories about  the people who lived there?  History can be fun, interesting  and  not all facts and figures. Thanks to the Internet and the dedication of folks who take the time to scan and share what they find  in old history books, newspapers, etc, it is  much easier to locate information that a researcher had to spend hours in a library or museum collec
