Reading old newspapers on line reveals  many interesting stories "Oil Well down 4,600 Feet Drillers ordered to keep on, Spiritualist Feeling confident in Manifestations.      The oil well which is being drilled at the Watrous under the direction of Mrs. Edith Day, an Elmira Spiritualist ,who dreamed that oil would be found where the well is located, has reached a depth of 4,600 feet.  At this depth, soft rock was encountered. While the baler was in the hole, the earth caved in ,covering up the baler. It is the intention to resume drilling the well just as soon as the baler is recovered. Thus far,no oil has been struck.    While disclaiming that she is a Spiritualist or that she makes a practice of mediumship, Mrs. Day said one day last week that the well is being drilled upon her responsibilities and at a place where she dreamed oil would be found.   The fact that well has been drilled to an unusual depth does not discourage her,and ...

School Buses & Early Transportation of Students

 Central School @ Lindley- Was Located near Wetlands-Lindley Rd. (Was Last seen before -1972 Flood )    I really appreciate it when someone sends new information about Lindley history.  I received the following note from Durland Weale with additional information to the Lindley History "Lindley-  Looking Back -200 years- 1900  " about Lindley school bus transportation .   "First pupil transportation to high school from Lindley was Fall of 1930. Ruth Weale bought a 1930 4 door Sedan to transport Lawrence Toby ,Dexter Eastwood(?), Evelyn, Eleanor,Margaret Toby  and Marion Weale to Northside High School Daily . Fall of 1931,  William Ayres bought a Chevrolet dual wheel bus with seats arranged lengthwise of the yellow vehicle. Fall of 1936, William Ayres purchased a Reo larger bus -green and white for daily trips to Painted Post and Northside High School . Mrs. Ayres assisted."...

Lindley Historical Society Meeting

Some roads on 2005 map  no longer exist  and new maps will show new roads when I 99 is completed in ( 2013. ???? )      The Lindley-Presho Historical Society meetings will resume on Thursday March 28th 7:00 PM.at the Lindley Town Hall on Rt. 15.  The program is a display of aerial maps of Lindley taken in June 1955. (weather permitting) Meetings are free and  public is invited.
