A Bride and Groom in Hard Luck in 1901

Today's passenger trains travel  from the Wellsboro, Pa vicinity to  the Ives Run Recreational Area and back over some of the 1901  Central RR right of way.. They were to leave on the 6:30 train going South on the Central last night and after waiting at the station for awhile they concluded not to go as the train was 3 hours late.             They were on hand at 6 o'clock this morning for the Central train which did not leave Corning until 9:30 on account of a wreck at Presho. They were also delayed at Presho until 12 o'c

April Lindley-Presho Historical Society Meeting -April 23rd.

The April meeting for the Lindley –Presho Historical Society meeting will be held on   Thursday April 23rd –7 P.M at the Town Hall.   Since Lindley will celebrate it’s 225th birthday in June, several events are being planned and discussed at this meeting .   The first will Armed Forces Day on Sunday May 17th at 2 P.M. to honor our Veterans   The Tioga Pa.Honor Guard will conduct a ceremony honoring all branches of  military service. This will be the 7th year of their helping us honor our local veterans. The Woodhull Community Band will be here to play Patriotic music. For lunch before the ceremony –the Lindley-Presho Firemen are having their annual Chicken Bar B-Q    Noon- til   Refreshments will be served following the ceremony and hopefully some of Lindley’s bakers will help furnish cookies,etc. Brenda Criss will make her famous punch and as speaker  will talk about one of Lindley’s first settlers --- David Cook-Revolutionary War soldier.

                                    Archie Miller Store -Presho and Rt.15                                             Donated by Marion (Adsit ) Brion     The Miller store and barn in the upper photo are no longer there. These buildings would have been  north of the Methodist Church on the same side of  U.S. 15 before the 4 lane highway opened in 1970.   In the Lindley history  - Looking Back 200 years 1790-1990,   Virginia Kittel and Derma Ward reminisced about the stores that they remembered in Presho. Virginia remembered the Miller store and a blacksmith shop across the road. She, also, mentioned Mrs. Atwell's store that was across from the Methodist Church . Buying candy there for a Penny there was one of her memories. . Across the Tioga River, was the Halleck store -which became the Girdon Allyn home.  Previously, this had been a store owned by Thomas Presho. Derma remembered Hiram Reynolds owing the Miller store.
