Sunday Telegram 6-13-1954 75th Anniversary1879-1954

On June 13,1954, the Sunday Telegram  published a 75 Anniversary Edition of the newspaper.
                 It had several sections covering the history of the local New York/ Pennsylvania towns. Included was this photo of Lawrenceville,Penna taken from the hill at the east end of the present bridge (over the Tioga River) that connects Lindley,NY and Lawrenceville,Penna. via Steuben County Rt 116 (River Road).  As can be seen, this was a busy commercial area.Not only was there a RR Depot, stock yards, a Condensery but also,the Harrison House Hotel. (There are some interesting stories about the hotel that I hope to write about in the future.)
 Note mention of the Wiliamson Road.  Does this mean the Williamsom Road was on the East side of the Tioga River originally? The Williamson Road  started in Northunberland,Penna in 1792 by Colonel Williamson-(Founder of Bath ,New York.) and has an interesting history. Traces of the original road can still be found . Until I saw the caption with this photo, I assumed the Williamson Road was on the West side of the Tioga in Lindley. That and another article I found makes me really wonder which side of the river the road was on. Do any of the readers have ideas???

A former Lindley resident was curious as to the date. Eleazer Lindsley  and Lindsley Coat of Arms (Composite photo made for the Steuben County Hall of Fame) Lindley no longer has a school in the town and this is my way of letting the residents learn about the town where they live .  The following will be excerpts from various histories about the history  of the Town of Lindley. Each historian or person writing the following information has made his own  interpretation of the facts .  Kitty Lt. Colonel Eleazer Lindsley was born December 7th, 1737 in Morristown, New Jersey -the son of Jonathon Lindsley. He died in Lindley, N.Y. June 1,1794. He served as a Lt .Colonel. in Colonel Oliver Spencer's Regiment of New Jersey Continental Troops. He was ,also, a Second Major in the Morris County ,Militia . Brigadier General John Taylor - (2nd Husband of Mary Miller Lindsley)

20 October 2012 – Bath NY Delivered by Timothy F. Taylor, at his great x 4 grandfather’s, Brigadier General John Taylor, memorial service.   Impact of research – formation of team, re-establishment of ties to lost branches of the family. One of the first documents that the team discovered was a note in the Bath Historian’s office detailing some of the History of General John Taylor and his family.   In that note it states that John Taylor started as a private in the Militia.   Although we have not found any of his Militia Records prior to 1775, we have found that on October 28 th of 1775 he was promoted to 2 nd Major of the 4 th Hunterdon Regiment of the New Jersey Militia. Revolutionary War Pension Applications detail some of his unit’s accomplishments, one of which tells of a detail from Major John Taylor’s command that was sent to patrol the Delaware River in December of 1776.   That detail was under the command of Lt.
