A little history --


During the past several years the Town of Lindley has been in the process of assuming the responsibility of the Fairview Cemetery for a variety of reasons -#1 being the lack of funds by the Cemetery Association to maintain the cemetery and #2 health problems for some of the long time volunteers.


A productive discussion was held at the June Town Board meeting to discuss ways to assist the Town in maintaining the appearance of the Cemetery that would appease some of the lot owners.


As of today -the cemetery has been mowed for the 4th of July -I am assuming by Rudy Jaubik and his landscaping crew who held the mowing contract. The old flags left as guides last fall to assist the volunteers who would put them out in 2011 have been replaced by Tom Loughridge and Dick Pierce. The cemetery looks great as you can tell from the photos.


Many thanks to the mowers for a great job and to Dick and Tom for their hours of volunteer efforts.


Hopefully, some younger folks will soon step forward as volunteers to assist in a joint effort with the Town to maintain one of Lindley's oldest cemeteries ----the permanent residence of some of the members of Lindley's oldest families. .

Eleazer Lindsley  and Lindsley Coat of Arms (Composite photo made for the Steuben County Hall of Fame) Lindley no longer has a school in the town and this is my way of letting the residents learn about the town where they live .  The following will be excerpts from various histories about the history  of the Town of Lindley. Each historian or person writing the following information has made his own  interpretation of the facts .  Kitty Lt. Colonel Eleazer Lindsley was born December 7th, 1737 in Morristown, New Jersey -the son of Jonathon Lindsley. He died in Lindley, N.Y. June 1,1794. He served as a Lt .Colonel. in Colonel Oliver Spencer's Regiment of New Jersey Continental Troops. He was ,also, a Second Major in the Morris County ,Militia . Brigadier General John Taylor - (2nd Husband of Mary Miller Lindsley)

20 October 2012 – Bath NY Delivered by Timothy F. Taylor, at his great x 4 grandfather’s, Brigadier General John Taylor, memorial service.   Impact of research – formation of team, re-establishment of ties to lost branches of the family. One of the first documents that the team discovered was a note in the Bath Historian’s office detailing some of the History of General John Taylor and his family.   In that note it states that John Taylor started as a private in the Militia.   Although we have not found any of his Militia Records prior to 1775, we have found that on October 28 th of 1775 he was promoted to 2 nd Major of the 4 th Hunterdon Regiment of the New Jersey Militia. Revolutionary War Pension Applications detail some of his unit’s accomplishments, one of which tells of a detail from Major John Taylor’s command that was sent to patrol the Delaware River in December of 1776.   That detail was under the command of Lt.
